The highest ski resorts in the eastern United States are located just across Interstate 26 at the Tennessee/North Carolina state line. Also, the Blue Ridge Parkway runs through this area offering breathtaking views of the mountains.
Some of the most outstanding entertainment is available in Northeast Tennessee as Bristol is the home of the famous Bristol Motor Speedway and NASCAR races. Country and bluegrass music is available throughout the area with Bristol becoming known as the birthplace of country music, and the famous Carter Fold is just a short drive away across the state line in Virginia.
There are many theaters (including Barter Theater) nearby along with museums, historical mansions, outdoor dramas, dance theaters, ongoing festivals, concerts, baseball, and football games.
